India Set for Record Wheat Output in 2011-12

NEW DELHI – India is likely to harvest a record wheat crop in 2011-12, aided by favorable weather and higher acreage, Farm Minister Sharad Pawar said Monday.

"The crop looks better than last year and [the output] should be a record," MR. Pawar told reporters.India, the world's second-largest wheat producer, harvested 85.93 million metric tons of wheat last year.Mr. Pawar added that the output of pulses will likely be around 18 million tons, almost the same as last year.
